Positioned on a large residential block in Caringbah South, the project at 10 Cook Street was conceived as a fully integrated design and construct solution by Ambient. The project delivered two contemporary dwellings that balance individuality with architectural cohesion while responding carefully to the site’s sloping topography.

Inspired by a subtle “Yin Yang” design philosophy, the dwellings balance contrasting materials and forms within a symmetrical build envelope, allowing each residence to complement the other while sharing a unified architectural aesthetic.

Internally, the homes feature natural stone finishes, timber flooring, and bespoke joinery, creating warm, refined interiors grounded in durability and craftsmanship. Custom joinery throughout the open-plan living spaces reinforces clean lines and visual continuity, while soft timber tones and carefully considered lighting create calm, balanced environments.

The sloping site presented significant challenges, with both cross-fall and front-to-back fall characteristics requiring careful planning and structural coordination. These constraints informed the spatial arrangement of the homes and the structural approach, resulting in a balanced layout that works with the site’s natural topography.

Achieving strong natural light within both dwellings was another key design consideration, particularly given the north-facing orientation of the site. This was resolved through the strategic placement of skylights and the inclusion of an upper-level living space designed to capture northern light, ensuring bright and functional interiors throughout the day.

Delivered through Ambient’s integrated design and construction process, the project demonstrates how thoughtful planning, material integrity, and careful craftsmanship can elevate duplex living. The result is a pair of durable, low-maintenance homes designed for longevity while contributing positively to the surrounding streetscape of Caringbah South.
